Here are some of the more frequently asked questions I receive about the one-to-one mentoring programme:
What are my chances of getting a training contract after your one to one mentoring? Is it guaranteed?
It is not possible to say what your chances of success will be, or to guarantee a training contract, as this will depend on various factors such as your qualifications, work experience and how you perform in interview. I am confident, however, that your chances of success will be significantly improved by us working together.
Is the mentoring specific to a particular job application or is it more general in nature?
The mentoring is intended to help you improve all future applications. We will work on an example application, the general improvements to which you can use on other applications. Of course, all applications should be specific to the job in question so will need to be amended each time.
My circumstances are rather unique compared to other law students, can you still help me?
There are no set requirements to qualify for the mentoring programme. I will always tell you if I do not feel that I can help you but this is very rarely the case. This is why I offer a free initial consultation so please take advantage of it.
I have had other advice on my applications? How will your mentoring differ?
It is difficult to say without knowing the details of the other advice you have taken. However, the mentoring I offer is different to much of the other advice out there as I have first hand experience of reviewing 100’s of training contract applications and therefore know what can cause an application to make it onto the interview pile instead of the ‘No’ pile.
How many firms do you apply to on my behalf?
Unlike some other services, I do not make applications on your behalf as this will not benefit you down the line when you get to interview stage for example. Instead, I mentor you through improving your own applications and so you can use what you learn on all future applications you make.
Do you personally provide the mentoring or do you have a team of mentors to help you?
I provide all mentoring sessions and advice myself.
What happens in the free initial telephone consultation?
This gives you the opportunity to ask any further questions you have about my mentoring service and allows me to assess whether you would be able to benefit from it.
How long does the mentoring take from start to finish?
This will very much depend on you and I would always try to work to your timetable as far as possible. If you have enough time to work on your applications as a priority, I would like to think we could get through the mentoring within two weeks maximum. If you have application deadlines looming, we can look to work quicker if needed.
How would I make payment of the fee?
All payments are made securely via Paypal. The fee is payable in two equal instalments – 50% in advance and 50% upon completion of the mentoring programme. I will email you the Paypal details once you confirm your booking.
Where are you based? Would I be expected to meet you in person?
I am based in Manchester. You would not be expected to meet in person, all mentoring is done by phone/Skype and email.
