Here are some of the more frequently asked questions I receive about the the application services:
Is the coaching specific to a particular job application or is it more general in nature?
The coaching is intended to help you improve all future applications. We will work on an example application, the general improvements to which you can use on other applications. Of course, all applications should be specific to the job in question so will need to be amended each time.
My circumstances are rather unique compared to other law students, can you still help me?
There are no set requirements to qualify for the application services. I will always tell you if I do not feel that I can help you but this is very rarely the case.
I have had other advice on my applications? How will your services differ?
It is difficult to say without knowing the details of the other advice you have taken. However, the advice I offer is different to much of the other advice out there as I have first hand experience of reviewing hundreds of training contract applications and therefore know what can cause an application to make it onto the interview pile instead of the ‘No’ pile.
How many firms do you apply to on my behalf?
Unlike some other services, I do not make applications on your behalf as this will not benefit you down the line when you get to interview stage for example. Instead, I help you improve your own applications and so you can use what you learn on all future applications you make.
What are my chances of getting a training contract after your one to one coaching? Is it guaranteed?
It is not possible to say what your chances of success will be, or to guarantee a training contract, as this will depend on various factors such as your qualifications, work experience and how you perform in interview. I am confident, however, that your chances of success will be significantly improved by us working together.
Do you personally provide the advice or do you have a team of people to help you?
I provide all coaching sessions and advice myself. I have been a solicitor myself and been involved in the recruitment of trainee solicitors for some time so I provide advice based on this experience.
What happens in the free 15 minute telephone consultation for the one to one coaching and the interview coaching?
This gives you the opportunity to ask any further questions you have about my coaching services and allows me to assess whether you would be able to benefit from them.
How long does the one to one coaching take from start to finish?
This will very much depend on you and I would always try to work to your timetable as far as possible. If you have enough time to work on your applications as a priority, I would like to think we could get through the coaching within two weeks maximum. If you have application deadlines looming, we can look to work quicker if needed.
Where are you based? Would I be expected to meet you in person?
I am based in Manchester. You would not be expected to meet in person, all coaching is done by phone/Skype and email. If you would like a face to face meeting we can do so in Manchester city centre.
I have another question about the application services, what should I do?
